Epson TM-m30 Printer
Connect an Epson receipt printer to a register over a secure connection.
Smooth POS talks to your Epson printer over a secure (SSL) connection. To set that up, you generate a certificate in Smooth POS, load it onto the printer, and then trust it on the device you use as your register.
Recommended printerBuying a new printer? We recommend the Epson TM-m30III. It's set up the same way as the other TM-m30 models, so just follow the steps below.
These steps work for all TM-m30 models (I, II and III) and the TM-T88. Menu names can vary a little between firmware versions, so check Epson's manual if something looks different.
1. Connect the printer to your network
Use the printer's control panel to set its IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS server. Give it a fixed IP address so the register can always find it.
To check it's connected, type the printer's IP address into a web browser. You should see its configuration page.
2. Add the printer to your register
- In Smooth POS, go to Register → Stores and select your store. If you haven't created one yet, see Creating a store.
- Open the Registers tab and select your register, or create one.
- Enter the printer's IP address and tick Generate Printer SSL Cert.
- Select Save.
3. Download the certificate
Reopen the register's settings and select Download in the certificate section. Keep this file handy, because you'll need it in the next two steps.
4. Load the certificate onto the printer
- On the printer's web configuration page, go to Maintenance → Network → TCP/IP → Advanced → Security.
- Select Use SSL and set up the certificate you downloaded. When it asks for the certificate password, enter
changeit. - Save your changes and restart the printer.
5. Trust the certificate on your device
Finally, install the same certificate on each device that will print to this printer:
